Although this coffee is harvested at relatively low altitude, Caripe ́s altitude is ideal for the coffee production
considering its latitude (10o 10 ́ 9”), similar to Costa Rica and Panama, where the right temperatures are
achieved due to the austral location from the ecuador. Such conditions have also granted the region the
production of a worldwide known cocoa.
Caripe is one of the oldest Venezuelan coffee producing regions. Hacienda Cocollar is located on the green
mountains of the idyllic valley of El Guácharo National Park. The road to get there offers a myriad of surprising
landscapes. This geographic paradise, comprising 250 hectares of land, are covered by banana and other fruit
trees which provide plentiful shade to the coffee plants.
Hacienda Cocollar has been part of the Avila family for more than 50 years and has seen three generations
watching over its agricultural paradise. After spending more than 30 years without being linked to the coffee
plantation founded by his family in eastern Venezuela, Carlos César Ávila decided to return to the countryside
in 2016 to transform this plantation into something glorious! Thanks to its alliance with the Liagre family, who
founded the export company ORIGIN2U, Hacienda Cocollar has grown to include 100,000 coffee plants, which
account for 40% of what is produced in Caripe. Although we don't know the exact number, we do know that
the vast majority of Caripe's population is linked to Cocollar.
